Reactive and Klnetlc Properties of Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide on a Graphite Surface

چکیده
Temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) results after chemisorption of carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO,) on polycrystalline graphite are presented. CO adsorbs onto graphite with a very low sticking coefficient. After CO Chemisorption, CO (mass 28 amu) desorbs in two temperature regions, between 400 and 700 K and between 1000 and 1300 K, and COz (mass 44 amu) desorbs below 950 K. The intensity of the COz signal is less than 1 order of magnitude lower than the CO intensity. After C02 adsorption the major desorption product is CO at high temperatures (1000 < T (K) < 1300), whereas a small amount of COz desorbs around 450 K. The adsorption of a CI6Oz and C'*Oz mixture leads to a nearly total oxygen scrambling of the C02 desorbed. A mechanism for CO and COz interconversion on the graphite surface is presented in terms of surface oxide species, mainly lactones and semiquinones, and their relative stability. Assignments of the TPD features are proposed accordingly. Reaction studies on the C02 gasification of clean graphite and the CO disproportionation (Boudouard reaction) have been performed. A good agreement is found between the activation energies obtained and the desorption energies calculated from the analysis of the TPD results.

The Reactive Chemisorption of Carbon Dioxide at Mg(100) Surface
X-ray photoelectron and electron energy loss spectroscopic (XPS-EELS) studies reveal that the following species are present when a mixture of CO2 and water vapour is exposed to the clean Mg(100) surface at 110K: CO3(a), C(a) CH(a), OH(a). The reactive chemisorptions of CO2 and H2O vapour coadsorbed on a Mg surface ...

Background: Poisoning with carbon monoxide occurs occasionally worldwide, and the gold diagnostic standard is to measure carboxyhemoglobin level in the blood. This study investigated the correlation between carboxyhemoglobin and the end-tidal carbon dioxide levels in 50 patients with carbon monoxide poisoning. Methods: We recruited 50 volunteer patients who had been admitted to the Emergency S...

Graphite oxide constitutes carbon network with oxygen atoms both on hexagonal arrangement and the edge sites. Structural and electronic properties for graphite-oxygen complexes have been explored using first-principles total-energy calculations within the local density approximation (LDA). Band structures and density of states for the propose carbon 3D models are reported. A finite energy gap and...

متن کاملCoadsorption of Dioxygen and Carbon Monoxide on a Mg(100) Surface
The activation of carbon monoxide by oxygen on Mg(100) surface has been investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Carbon monoxide is only weakly adsorbed (dispersion-type forces) on a magnesium surface. The XPS result has shown that the dissociation of carbon monoxide leading to the formation of a metastable surface carbonate species occurs through the participation of an oxyg...
